10 Tips for Those Long Trips
- Don’t just stop at the first place (garage/coffee shop/lodgings) when entering a town. Travel a bit further – the best
places are in town.
- Follow the 1 hour/120 km’s rule (stop at whichever one comes first). You will never get a sore bum or lose
concentration.
- When looking for accommodation in a small town, first visit their Info Centre. They give excellent advice.
- If you have a GPS, also take along a proper map. GPS’ can sometimes get it wrong.
- Eat breakfast. It will sustain you, keep up your energy levels and make you last longer.
- Plan your trip, but don’t over-plan it. Don’t make reservations in advance (unless it’s in season). You may
decide to change your route.
- Take cash for fuel. Most petrol stations accept Debit and Garage Cards, but some small towns don’t.
- Take your time. Don’t be afraid to stop and take a photo. It’s the best way to treasure your
memories.
- Take a good, colourful rain-suit. It might not be your prettiest garment, but it is great for visibility in rainy
weather.
- Do it with someone special. It is a truly special experience that can only be shared with and treasured by someone close to your
heart.
